Newman Signs was founded by Harold Newman in 1956. Mr. Newman began the business in his mother-in-law’s garage painting signs to pay for college tuition. Upon graduation, Newman moved the business to Jamestown, ND where it is today. Newman Signs initially concentrated on billboards and only had eight employees in 1972, which turned out to be a turning point in the company’s history.
Driven by a commitment to meet the evolving needs of its partners, Newman steadily expanded its capabilities across the country. The company grew through strategic acquisitions, adding full-scale manufacturing for traffic and roadway safety, launching state-of-the-art large-format printing facilities, and growing its billboard coverage. This period of rapid expansion established Newman as a comprehensive industry leader with deep roots throughout North Dakota and the surrounding region.
Over the decades, Newman Signs grew from a single garage workshop into a multi-division leader spanning traffic safety, large-format printing, and out-of-home media. Each step in our 70-year story built the operational strength, deep regional roots, and commitment to quality that define us today.
